Plano Balloon Festival 2012

We went to the Plano Balloon Festival last year, but due to the weather, we were never able to see the balloons launch.  They let us go out on the launch field and see the balloons on the ground but we didn't get to see them in the air.  We had been planning on and looking forward to going to the one this year because we thought it would be really cool for the boys to see the Pre-Launch Balloon Glow - "Wake up Plano".  This is where they get all the balloons up and ready in the launch field before the sun comes up (start time was at 6:30am) and it's suppose to be a spectacular sight.  We were so excited and made it to the launch field promptly at 6:30am.  For reasons I still do not understand (something about wind speeds at 200 ft., blah, blah, blah, because there wasn't jack for wind on the ground) they weren't able to launch the balloons until 7:30am...after the sun came up.  So, needless to say, we didn't get to experience the spectacular before sunrise sight that folks ranted and raved about but it was still really cool to see all the balloons launch and float over the festival.

Austin anxiously awaiting the Pre-Launch Balloon Glow - "Wake up Plano" (before they announced that this was not going to happen until after sunrise).

Aiden waiting too.

Daddy and Austin...still waiting.

Sun is now up.  We heard the news that it would be awhile before launch and are just excited and ready to see some balloons.  They were getting them all laid out on the ground and ready to "blow up".

Austin liked the "buffalo balloon".

Weird balloon in the air.

Skunk balloon.

 Lots of balloons.

Austin really liked this pirate balloon too.

 This was Aiden's favorite balloon.

Austin and Aiden on a little priate ship ride that swung back and forth.  All smiles in the beginning.

Then it went higher and higher and Austin's smile quickly faded.  Austin was crying to get off the ride and Aiden loved it, but started crying when the ride was over because he wanted to stay on it.  The poor guy running the ride was so confused.  Welcome to my world, buddy. :)

So, all in all, I think this year's balloon festival was a success.  Guess we'll just have to hit the festival again next year and see what happens.
