Earlier this month, we went to check out this place called In-Sync Exotics. It is a wildlife rescue and education center for exotic felines. It was a pretty cool little joint that had lots of tigers, lions, leopards, etc. that were in cages, with paths winding all through them. Of course, there were a couple of chain link fences between you and the big cats, but that really didn't seem like much, considering the massive size of some of the tigers living there. We didn't take many pictures (mainly because I forgot the camera) but it was also cold/rainy and Ramsey was tasked with carrying Austin, and I, Aiden. When we were getting ready to leave, Ramsey decided to take a few pictures with his phone of a black and white tiger that was really huge and cool looking. The tiger evidently did not want his picture taken because he jumped up so fast and aggressively lunged at the fence where Ramsey was standing. At one point in time, I think he might have even been standing on his hind legs, front legs against the fence. It certainly scared the crap out of Ramsey...he took off running towards us so fast that he didn't have an opportunity to capture the moment of attempted attack on film. Would've been a much more exciting picture than the one below, which was just moments before the attack. :) Anyhow, really a neat place.
Austin decided that it was time to let Aiden learn to drive Lightning McQueen. He is getting a bit better, but really likes to drive in reverse, while looking forward. Austin thinks it's fun to push on the hood while Aiden drives in reverse and giggles at him.
Aiden "helping" Daddy work.
Daddy and Aiden at the Sachse Pumpkin Prowl.
Austin by the pond down the street. If you look very closely, you can see some ducks on the edge of the pond, just to the left of Austin's head. Grandpa "Candy" ~ this one's for you. We were hoping it might give you some inspiration to be a better "true" hunter. :)
On the Tuesday before Halloween, we decided to carve our pumpkins. Below is a picture of Austin anxiously awaiting the festivities. He came down with a 102-ish fever that afternoon and wasn't feeling well at all. Poor little guy had been looking forward to Halloween since we bought his costume, almost 6 weeks ago, and then the day before he gets sick. Speaking of sick...not sure if other kids are as lucky as mine but since the day I enrolled Austin in a MDO program, my boys have been sick almost constantly...and that was over a year ago. :( It's either snot, cough, fever or poop...sometimes all 4. On one of the most recent sick visits to the pediatrician, I asked if there was anything I could do to help boost their immune system or something so that they wouldn't be sick so much. She basically said to suck it up and deal with it because kids their age are always sick with some kind of virus or another until they build up some immunity...usually around the time they enter grade school. Then they will have to worry about other stuff like strep, chicken pox, etc. What I heard was, "It's going to suck and good sleep with be difficult for the next 10 or so years." Good times.
Austin waiting.
Austin and Aiden waiting. I don't exactly remember why there seemed to be so much waiting or what Ramsey and I were doing that we couldn't get the show on the road. I guess I was busy taking pictures when I should have been carving pumpkins.
Aiden starting to carve his teeny, tiny pumpkin. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have been taking pictures...a better idea would have been to closely supervise my 2 year old, equipped with a miniature carving knife. Lucky for me, there were no battle scars or blood shed during the pumpkin carving process.
Austin and Aiden with the finished products. We didn't spend the time or effort on any of the fancy pumpkin carving designs this year. Yes, we suck as parents. Hopefully, we didn't scar them for life.
So, Halloween comes. Austin still feeling crappy and this time fever is pretty much stationary at the 103-104 range. Below is a picture of my poor baby, feeling like crap, right before putting on his costume. He didn't seem to be too excited about Trick or Treating...can't say that I blame him.
Aiden and Austin in their costumes. Austin was obviously Spiderman. Aiden was Bumblebee, but he refused to wear his mask even though it was super cute. Guess he gets that from his parents, who always seem to chose comfort over style.
My Spiderman.
Austin really didn't feel like walking much so little brother pulled him around in the wagon.
The boys getting some much needed candy.
For some strange reason, people were taking a long time to answer the door. Quite a bit of waiting going on in the eyes of a 2 year old and a sick almost 4 year old. Um, hello people. You have your porch lights on and it's Halloween. Get with the program!
I finally ended up taking Austin to the Dr. on Friday after 3 days of running an extremely high fever, not eating (I think he ate half of a pretzel) and little sleep. Didn't seem like the Motrin or Tylenol were helping to keep his temp down. It would drop to 100 or so but never below. Strep test negative. Mono test negative (this one required them to draw blood and boy was that traumatic...more so for me, I think). Pediatrician a bit concerned, given the length of time with the crazy high fever. She prescribed him an antibiotic and about 24 hrs later, temp came back to normal and he was feeling much better. I sure hope whatever he had never returns because that was unpleasant.
