We were heading up for the 3:00 PM feeding, so we decided to call and let the nurse know. She told us that she had two good pieces of news, but said we would see when we got there. To our delight, Austin was no longer on the CPAP and the jaundice light was gone! His level of bilirubin went from an 8 to a 5 so he no longer needed the light. They also said he was doing so well so they took him off the CPAP. He is now using a Nasal Cannular, which does the same thing as the CPAP but assists much less. He is needing more oxygen now that he moved off the CPAP, in between 25 and 30%, but they said that was normal. They also told us that there is a chance he may need to go back on the CPAP if he's having to work too hard. Another thing they are watching is for apnea/bradycardia, which is when his heart rate drops and he stops taking breaths. He actually had one when we were there, and it scared the crap out of both of us. He recovered on his own, but they also rub his back to remind him that he's supposed to be breathing. All of which they said is normal, but they are monitoring to ensure it doesn't occur to frequently. If it does, then they give him a medicine that contains caffeine, which helps with that. We were also happy to find out that they doubled his food again. He is now up to 8cc of breast milk every 3 hours. He'll be a big boy in no time!

I get to change positions every 3 hours (to help shape my head). Since I no longer need the CPAP, I don't have as much stuff attached to my head. So the nurse was able to put me on my stomach, which I really like. It makes me feel like I'm still in the womb.
