December 20, 2008

Here is a picture of Mommy and me in my new home for the next 10-11 weeks. They said I need to be able to feed 8 times a day, gain weight, breathe on my own and regulate my own temperature. Once I can get that down, they said I would be ready to go home with Mommy and Daddy. Today, I was even able to poop a few times, which they said was a good sign.

Mommy does a real good job of feeding me. She makes this stuff that is really tasty and is good for my tummy. Then she comes to see me, the nurse puts it in a tube and Mommy holds it up high so I am able to get it in my tummy. Right now, I get to eat 4cc every three hours (3, 6, 9, 12 AM/PM) of breast milk. If Mommy is unable to get me enough, then I get donor milk. But so far, she is doing awesome. Go Mommy!

They said I have a little jaundice, so I put my foam shades on and they turned the light on for me. They said that for bilirubin levels above a 7, they turn on the light, and I was an 8. Boy is this a bright light!

This is my favorite position, even though the nurse always tucks me back in. I had to stay on the ventilator for 17 hours, but I was doing so well that they moved me back to the CPAP. They said I was even breathing 21% Oxygen, which is what Mommy and Daddy breathe. The CPAP helps me by pushing air back into my lungs after I breathe, to ensure that my lungs do not colapse. Really neat stuff they have me hooked up to, even though I'm not very photogenic right now.
